Bryant and Morgan Bruce’s love story started in Tuscaloosa, where they both attended college at the University of Alabama. They tied the knot after graduating in 2014 and moved to Birmingham–Lake Wilborn, specifically–in 2018 to be closer to their families before starting one of their own.

The Hoover area drew the newlyweds thanks to its family-friendly neighborhoods, stellar school system and plethora of places to shop, mingle and eat. Hoover has everything, Morgan adds.

“When we heard about Lake Wilborn, we jumped in on the first phase of building and were extremely grateful we did,” Morgan says. “We visited the neighborhood site to pick out and design our home when there was nothing but flattened land and a construction trailer. Seeing it finished now is so amazing.”

The couple opted for a modern transitional aesthetic, keeping contemporary elements in mind that would help their home grow as their family did, too. The Bruces welcomed their first daughter, Elliott, 4, who was soon after followed by her younger sister, Palmer, 1.

Morgan says it’s important to her family to make sure their home’s design not only accommodates their young children, but it also feels homey and warm. One of Morgan’s favorite rooms is Palmer’s nursery, which is decorated in a baby pink and white color palette.

Functionality is just as important as aesthetic to Morgan, so she prioritized sourcing durable furniture that is made to last–sofas and chairs with washable slipcovers are also a must, she says.

“I love the space we’ve been able to create and the nurture and growth of our family since moving in,” Morgan says. “Bringing both of our beautiful girls home to this house takes the cake and is so special to us. Hosting friends and family brings us so much joy. We’re grateful [this house] allows us these opportunities.”

Kitchen

The white, marble-design quartz countertops paired with the white cabinets left the kitchen feeling a little sterile, so Morgan brought in some color with the Persian runner.

Morgan likes the modern transitional aesthetic because it is a blend of timeless and trendy decor.
