Arbor Day Celebration

Aldridge Gardens

The city of Hoover’s 25th annual Arbor Day celebration will feature talks from David Doggett on the proper planting and caring of trees. Aldridge Gardens will also be giving away free trees, including limited numbers of Black Gum, Bald Cypress, Vitex, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Dawn Redwood, American Fringetree, Eastern Mayhaw, Willow Oak, Southern Red Oak, Sioux Crape Myrtle and Catawba Crape Myrtle. These giveaways have all been grown in three-gallon-size pots and will range in height from 3-6 feet. Be sure to come early as trees will be given away while supplies last. Learn more here

Taste of Teal Gala

Brought to patrons by the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation, the annual Taste of Teal gala will recognize the foundation’s four new honorees, who have gone above and beyond to bring hope and inspire strength in GYN cancer patients and survivors. This year’s gala will feature a delicious dinner, silent auction, music and testimonials from the honorees. Tickets are $200 and may be purchased here.

Hearts in Harmony Gala

Hoover Country Club

Presented by the Hoover Service Club, the 12th annual Hearts in Harmony Fundraising Gala will feature its guest of honor, Chief Meteorologist James Spann. Festivities will commence with a cocktail hour and silent auction at 6 p.m., and dinner will follow at 7 p.m. Will Lochamy (Birmingham Mountain Radio) will emcee, and Hoover City Council President John Lyda will act as the event’s auctioneer for the evening. Proceeds benefit scholarships for Hoover High School and Spain Park High School students, as well as additional needs for the Hoover community such as Hoover Helps, food banks and more. SWAT 5K/Ruck

Saturday, March 2 | 4 p.m. – Gathering Time
Brock’s Gap Brewing Company

Brought to racers by the Alabama SWAT Foundation–a new nonprofit created by current SWAT police officers–the SWAT 5K/Ruck will begin at sunset and will start and finish at Brock’s Gap Brewing Company. The running trail will go towards Black Creek Mountain Bike Park before looping around back to the brewery. First, second and third-place trophies will be awarded to the winners in five different divisions. Registration ends March 1 at 11:59 p.m. CST. For more information or to register, click here

Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K & Family Fun Day

This annual 5K’s proceeds benefit scholarships for Jefferson State Community College (JSCC) students. After the race, everyone is invited to attend the family fun day, which will feature inflatables, food vendors, a dj, face painting and more. The race is held in honor of JSCC’s former president Dr. Judy M. Merritt, who served as the college’s president for 35 years. She was the first female president of an Alabama college.
