How You Met: Russ and I (Meagan) met at his little brother’s wedding in February 2016. We were both in the bridal party and met for the first time at the engagement party and reconnected at the rehearsal dinner. It wasn’t until we were at the reception that we really hit it off. We ended up talking most of the night and went on our first date a couple of weeks later.

The Proposal: Russ is very thoughtful and methodical. We had been dating for a little over three years and had talked about the possibility of getting married. On May 2, a Thursday afternoon, we ate dinner at his house and went on a walk afterward. Russ lives in Riverchase along the golf course and we enjoy walking the cart path. We walked down to hole #4, or “our spot,” where there is a rock overlook onto the Cahaba River. Once we were there, I noticed the six dozen colorful spray roses on the exposed rock that Russ had carefully lain out. When I first saw them, I didn’t realize they were for me – I thought someone had left them there! As I was starting to piece everything together, Russ pulled me close and told me the reasons he wanted me to be his wife. He got down on one knee and popped the question. I had no inclination this was about to happen, so when everything clicked, I lost it. Russ had brought out a couple of lawn chairs and a bottle of wine from a past trip to California wine country for us to enjoy. We sat there and enjoyed the wine while we took in the magnitude of what had just happened! It was such a sweet moment with just the two of us.

Favorite Moment: I am not a calm person, but Russ and I had been praying for months that our wedding would be a day that pointed to Jesus; I truly have never felt so calm and peaceful before. Each moment of the day when it seemed like a snag would happen, I would easily say, ‘Oh it’s not a big deal.’ Thanks be to God!
