Lakin Lawler & Layton Powell: A Hoover Wedding

How We Met: Layton and I (Lakin) met our junior year of college on spring break in Destin, Florida. We both attended The University of Alabama and instantly connected as we discovered we both were involved with Alabama football, I as a Crimsonette in the Million Dollar Band and he as a football manager for the team. We began dating at the beginning of our senior year and got to spend many special moments together on the sidelines at Alabama football games.

The Proposal: The weekend Layton proposed Alabama was playing South Carolina, so I definitely was not expecting a proposal. A good friend of mine asked me several weeks prior to do a photoshoot for a local boutique in town that Saturday afternoon. Weeks before I had picked out a beautiful white dress I loved in Destin, and Layton’s sister picked it up and brought it to my friend’s house before I got there to get ready for the photoshoot. My friend helped me get ready and took me to the “photo shoot” location, NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa. When we arrived Layton was standing under the clock tower with flowers, champagne and a ring.

Favorite Details: I’ve always wanted a very romantic, fairytale, yet elegant wedding, and I feel as if my vendors helped me accomplish just that. My aisle was lined with floating candles and white rose petals all the way down to the altar, where I had a beautiful arbor covered in white and pale pink flowers. The songs played during the procession were from Pride and Prejudice and truly added to the magical vibe. I am still in love with my seven-tiered wedding cake with gold leaves and the cascade of flowers surrounding. I truly felt like a princess ALL DAY LONG!
