•Riverchase Loves Art Show

February 1 // Riverchase Country Club

The 14th annual Riverchase Loves Art Show will feature a wide variety of artwork and handmade items by returning and new artists alike. The show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

•Hoover Service Club Meeting

February 13 // Hoover Country Club

Mayor Frank Brocato will serve as guest speaker and will deliver the 2020 State of the City Address. The club’s Acts of Service will be Three Hots and A Cot. Items needed include: deodorant, Pine Sol, bleach, toilet paper, batteries, ground coffee, toothpaste, hand/body wash, laundry detergent, paper towels, canned meats and garbage bags. The club welcomes members and guests to its monthly meetings.

•Southern Voices Festival Reception

February 18 // Hoover Public Library

The Southern Voices Festival will start with a 5:30 p.m. reception honoring Opelika artist and educator Carlton Nell, an art professor at Auburn University whose paintings and drawings can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the country. Nell’s work will be on display on the Theatre Level. Read more about this year’s stellar lineup for the festival on page 26.

•South Shades Crest’s Fairy Tale Festival

February 28 // South Shades Crest Elementary School

The second-annual Fairy Tale Festival from 5:30-8 p.m. will include fairytale crafts, face painting, a dance floor, an enchanted forest scavenger hunt, storybook theatre, character photo ops and games galore. You may dress up as your favorite storybook character, and siblings and neighbors are welcome to join the fun. Tickets are $10 in advance for children 2 years old and older. $12 tickets can be purchased at the door (adults are free). Pre-ordered tickets are available through Feb. 24. The first 150 children will receive a complimentary swag bag.

•Hearts in Harmony Gala

February 29 // Hoover Country Club

The Hoover Service Club’s eighth annual Hearts in Harmony Gala will honor Chorus SmartSecure’s Rob Hardman and Steven Splawn. The evening will include a silent auction, dinner and a live auction. Chorus SmartSecure is being honored for its commitment to bringing harmony to people’s homes and businesses through technology. As always, proceeds from the Hearts in Harmony event will benefit the club’s community service and scholarship endeavors. The festivities start at 6 p.m.
