1. ALDRIDGE GARDENS ANNUAL PLANT SALE

April 26+27

It’s time again for Aldridge Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale. The sale will be held on Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Aldridge Gardens is located at 3530 Lorna Road.

2. CELEBRATE HOOVER DAY

April 27

Veterans Park on Valleydale Road

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Consider this your invitation to the city’s annual celebration – a free, four-hour event featuring numerous exhibitors, carnival rides, live entertainment and the customary giant apple pie you can sample with a dab of ice cream. Park at Spain Park High School and take a complimentary shuttle to the festivities.

3. JLB BARGAIN CAROUSEL

April 27+28

April 27, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. + April 28, 1-5 p.m.

The Junior League of Birmingham’s Bargain Carousel will be held April 27 and April 28 in Hoover. This 1,000-family garage sale is a customer favorite, and proceeds from it benefit the JLB’s numerous charities.

4. GRAND OPENING OF EXPLORE PLAYGROUND AND SPLASH PAD

May 1

Hoover Metropolitan Complex

10 a.m.

Residents are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the much-anticipated EXPLORE Playground and Splash Pad with a ribbon cutting and light refreshments. The park includes a 17-foot exclusively designed clubhouse that will allow for two mobility devices inside while holding several more on the deck. The inside features a custom bookcase, window seat, fireplace and television along with a wide variety of textures and sensory components. The outside includes a rope ladder climber, different types of insects and animals. The splash pad will also allow for children with and without special needs to play side by side.

5. HOOVER MAYOR’S PRAYER BREAKFAST

May 7

The Hoover Beautification Board is pleased to announce tickets are now on sale for the 37th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. The event will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Wynfrey Hotel. This year’s speaker is PGA champion golfer Tom Lehman—who won more than 30 national and international professional events during his 37-year professional career but is known not only for his talent on the golf course but also for his strong faith. In 2005, he wrote a book titled, “A Passion for the Game,” in which he shares stories and words of wisdom on golf, life and his faith. Individual ticket prices for the breakfast are $25 or $250 for a table of 10. You can purchase tickets in person at the Hoover Library Theatre Box Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. 6. REGIONS TRADITION GOLF TOURNAMENT

Golf greats and celebrities will take to the greens of Greystone for this official major championship on the PGA Tour Champions. All the details, including ticket and sponsorship information, are available at Regionstradition.com.

7. SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT AND FANFEST 

May 21-26

Hoover Met Complex

Some of the best baseball in the country will unfold in Hoover as the top 12 teams battle it out on the road to Omaha. Between games, families can enjoy activities and refreshments at the SEC FanFest in the nearby Finley Center.
