Sept. 1

Ross Bridge 8K & Health Expo

7 a.m.

Ross Bridge Village Center

The Ross Bridge 8K is a race experience like no other, and the fun continues afterward with entertainment, vendor booths and a health exposition near the start/finish line. Medals will be given away for the top three finishers in each age category, plus grand prizes for the top male and female. The race will be chip timed this year to provide more accurate results. Proceeds from the events will benefit Alabama Teen Challenge. For more than 50 years, Teen Challenge has been providing quality residential, low-cost drug and alcohol recovery programs for individuals of all ages. For more information, visit alatc.org.

Sept. 22

Head Over Teal 5K

7 a.m.

The Preserve

The ninth annual Head Over Teal Race Day and Fall Festival is set for 2018. The 5K and 10K courses wind through the Preserve and are open to people and pets who want to walk or run their way to the finish line. Onsite registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m. sharp. Everyone – even those who choose not to participate in the 5K and 10K events – is invited to attend the free fall festival after the race. Festivities include food, live music, vendors, a fun photo booth, inflatables, face painting, pumpkin decorating and more on the lawn at the Preserve Town Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. Online registration is available by visiting ThinkOfLaura.org/HeadOverTeal.

 Sept. 13

The Black Lillies

7:30 p.m.

Moonlight on the Mountain

The Black Lillies website provides perhaps the best description of this group: “an internationally-renowned band of roots-rockers, armed with songs that blur the boundaries between folk, soul, red dirt country, blues and rock.” And they’ll be playing right here in Hoover. Tickets are $15 in advance through Eventbrite and $18 at the venue the day of the show. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Seating is general admission. More details about the band can be found at theblacklillies.com.
