The Proposal: Six short months after our first date, Ben and I (Maryellen) were looking out at Colorado Springs and the mountains on a hike. Then he started talking about how quickly things had happened with us, but how sure we knew we were perfect for each other. “This was the last place I went before I met you,” he said. “The last place I was when I was single… Okay for the next part of the conversation, I’m gonna need you to stand up.” He immediately got down on one knee to ask me to marry him.
Favorite Moments: Twelve days before our wedding day, our lives were rocked. Three days before the wedding, the city of Birmingham (where the venue lied) issued a stay-at-home order. Never did I think I would get married in front of 12 other people. My brother’s wife was the MVP that weekend and found a beautiful spot for us to marry in her neighborhood, Highland Lakes. Our parents were there, along with both sets of my grandparents. That said, we had a beautiful day with beautiful weather and so much time to spend with our families. The photographer came, the caterer still brought us lunch and we still had cake from Edgar’s. Most importantly, we were married, and I realized that all along, that alone was the only goal.
We rescheduled the celebration for Sept. 6, and there were no nerves or pressure because we were already married! The rest of our immediate families and many friends were able to be there. We loved being able to enjoy so much time with friends and family, and we spent so much time out on the dance floor, under the lights of Rucker Place. It was exactly how I pictured and imagined the day.
