Seventh Annual Hearts and Harmony Gala

The Hoover Service Club’s Hearts and Harmony Gala 2019 honoring Signature Homes Dwight Sandlin and Jonathan Belcher will once again feature a seated dinner, live and silent auctions and live entertainment. This annual evening of enjoyment doubles as the club’s fundraiser for its community service and scholarship endeavors. Reservations should be made by Feb. 15. The cost is $125 per person. Hoover Arbor Day Celebration

March 2

Aldridge Gardens

9:30 a.m.

The 21st annual Hoover Arbor Day Celebration is presented by the Hoover Beautification Board and will feature a formal ceremony honoring winners of this year’s Fourth Grade Arbor Day Essay Contest, free trees for Hoover residents, a ceremonial tree planting, full access to Aldridge Gardens and the “Roots” gift shop and assorted refreshments from local businesses. Certified arborists and other plant professionals will be on-site to answer tree-related questions and to assist residents with selecting an appropriate tree for their yard.

A Night for the Angels

The Angel Warriors Foundation Gala 2019 will consist of dinner, music, a silent auction, live entertainment, guest speakers and more, all benefitting this organization whose mission is to serve residents with special needs. Requested dress for the event is cocktail attire.

Paws for the Cause

March 9

Veterans Park on Valleydale Road

8-11 a.m.

The Shelby Humane Society will host the Paws for the Cause 5k and 1-Mile Tail Waggin’ Trek for people and the four-legged friends. The certified 5k off-road cross-country race will wind around the park and its lake, and through tree-lined trails that surround the park. The Tail Waggin-Trek is a 1-mile “obstacle” course run for individuals or teams and will be fun for adults, kids and dogs. Inverness vs. Cancer Golf Tournament

April 1

Inverness Country Club

12:30 p.m.

Inverness Country Club will hold the inaugural Inverness vs. Cancer golf tournament in honor of longtime golf pro Dave Ragan Jr. Entry fee is $150 per golfer, with lunch at 11 a.m. and an awards presentation (with light hors d’oeuvres) to conclude the tournament. Hole sponsorships are $250 per hole. There will be special prizes on all Par 3 holes, and Hole 6 will be a Money Hole. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in honor of Ragan.
