From summer camps to movie nights and beyond, Hoover has plenty of summer events to add to your calendar this month.

• Friday Night Flicks •
June 7
Veterans Park on Valleydale Road
7-9 p.m.
The 2019 Free Friday Flicks will begin June 7 at Veteran’s Park off Valleydale Road in Hoover and continue each Friday through July 26 at 6:30 p.m. each week. The schedule is as follows: Mary Poppins Returns on June 7, The Little Mermaid on June 14, A Dog’s Way Home on June 21, Ralph Breaks the Internet on June 28, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World on July 12, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation on July 19 and The Incredibles 2 on July 26. Also each week, there will be a free kids zone, giveaways and more. Films will begin at dusk. • Immersion Day •

Jefferson State Community College Shelby-Hoover Campus
Jefferson State Community College will host Fundamental Cook Immersion Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 21. The event is an opportunity for young adults with disabilities to consider new career training. Advance registration is required, with a limit of 20 per session. Contact Ms. Jackson at 983-5214 or chi@jeffersonstate.edu. The event will include a welcome from Chef Joseph Mitchell, director of hospitality at Jefferson State; orientation to the college and the Culinary and Hospitality Institute; question-and-answer with JSCC admissions, financial aid and ADA officer; hands-on skill practice; and complete interest screening tool.
• Drama Daze •

Berry Middle School
10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day
Students can spend several of their summer days at Drama Daze, a five-day camp for rising fourth through ninth graders. The camp is designed to promote confidence, imagination, teamwork and self-confidence through exploring the power of storytelling using body, voice and mind through via art, song, dance and acting. Students will collaborate, problem-solve and have fun, while learning new skills, making new friends and preparing a showcase performance on the final day. On June 28, students will stay after camp to do final preparation for a showcase performance held that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $185 for the week, which includes a camp T-shirt, art supplies and pizza on Friday. The saying “the sky is the limit” applies to this camp designed for young space enthusiasts (ages 3-7). Hands-on exploration stations will be set up for these little astronauts-in-training.
