Bluff Park Coffee Collective–a collaboration from Bluff Park residents Bert Davis (Daysol Coffee Lab) and Ramsey Nuss (Good Neighbor Baking)—opened on Saturday, April 6 in Shades Mountain Plaza. The dynamic duo met over social media in 2020 and decided to go into business together later on because of their shared love for Bluff Park. Here, the co-owners detail what Bluff Park Coffee Collective will offer for the local community.
When partnering together, how did y’all decide what would be on the menu?
Both companies take pride in the quality of their products. Good Neighbor Baking’s passion for both creativity and consistency in the kitchen is evident in any of the delicious pastries or custom-ordered cookie cakes. Daysol Coffee Lab’s freshly roasted coffee beans and carefully cultivated blends form the basis of all the menu’s coffee drinks. Our rotating pastry menu has allowed the bakers to explore new takes on traditional baked goods, while our seasonal coffee menu provides the baristas with the chance to showcase unique flavors and pairings.
What beverages pair best with some of Good Neighbor Baking’s pastries?
Daysol Coffee Lab’s rosemary lavender latte is made from our wanderlust blend espresso and our rosemary and lavender simple syrup. This syrup is made in-house from rosemary and lavender that was harvested directly from a garden in Bluff Park. This drink is the perfect partner for Good Neighbor Baking’s Conecuh drop biscuit. This biscuit screams “Alabama” with cheddar cheese, chives and everybody’s favorite Conecuh sausage. The light floral notes of the rosemary and lavender paired with the rich, savory herbal essence of the drop biscuit provide a balanced flavor profile with deep Southern roots.
What are some signature Daysol Coffee Lab drinks?
We definitely recommend ordering a cortado. A cortado is equal parts espresso and steamed milk. This four-ounce beverage really gives patrons the opportunity to experience both the smoothness and intensity of our wanderlust blend espresso, while tasting the carefully roasted beans that make our coffees so special.
Which menu items are a hallmark of Good Neighbor Baking?
The signature cinnamon roll highlights all the best parts of the classic cinnamon roll. So far, it’s our largest baked quantity and is packed full of a cinnamon sugar mixture and topped with a rich, maple buttercream frosting that keeps you coming back for more.
How do you hope Bluff Park Coffee Collective serves the Hoover community moving forward?
We want to be the place where community flourishes. We have been filled with gratitude as we’ve experienced the overwhelming love and support of Bluff Park and the city of Hoover, and we hope that we have created and continue to foster a place that residents are proud to call their local Hoover coffee shop.
