How We Met: Nick and I (Taylor) met our sophomore year at Hoover High School. A mutual friend thought we would be a great match and decided to set us up. We went to a group dinner and hit it off.
The Proposal: After spring break our senior year of college, COVID-19 struck, and we both decided to come home to Birmingham to continue school online. This threw a curveball in Nick’s plans for an engagement occur in Auburn surrounded by all of our friends, but on May 29, Nick told me to be ready for a dinner date later that evening. Since we had not left the house in weeks for any social events, I had a suspicious feeling that a proposal was about to happen. Nick drove us to The Club and popped the question.
Favorite Details: Some of my favorite details included sentimental items: my bridal cake tablecloth made from my mother’s wedding gown and Nick’s silver cake server that was used at his grandparents’ wedding. However, my most cherished detail was a surprise gift from my mom: a live painting of our first dance. Little did I know that the actual surprise came later when I received the finished painting, which included my late father. The painting captured one of our favorite moments, down to details of our venue, gorgeous flowers, and faces of our bridal party and family members. And as for my dad, we knew he was there with us all along.
Favorite Moment: After planning our wedding and then having to change venues three months prior due to COVID restrictions, we were so thankful for the chance to have a wedding. Being surrounded by friends and family, some of which we had not seen in years, was a night we will never forget.
