On Sept. 9, Hoover Helps will conduct its second annual Hunger Challenge at the Hoover vs. Spain Park football game.
Last year, the goal was to raise $1,000 and make it a competition between the fans.
The fundraiser resulted in a total of $4,281 in donations. The Hoover fans raised the most money – Hoover $2,276 vs. Spain Park $2,005.
There are children in Hoover that are food insecure. They don’t have enough to eat, especially on weekends.
Hoover Helps, a local non-profit, is helping to create partnerships between local organizations and the schools. These partnerships are helping to support backpack feeding programs.
Food is placed in a child’s backpack on Fridays so that they have proper nutrition over the weekend.
At the beginning of 2015, there were four elementary schools receiving food. Now, all but one elementary school and all middle schools have programs in place because of the generous organizations and people in the community.
The money raised at the Hunger Challenge will go directly back into all Hoover schools in the form of funding for food.
