How We Met: Brady and Lexey both spent part of their college tenure working at Auburn University’s Campus Recreation Center. Had Lexey not wanted extra money for a summer mission trip, the two would have never crossed paths. Lexey did not expect to catch attention from someone older, so when Brady introduced himself as her operations supervisor, she ignored his smile and kind demeanor. Lexey was very surprised to find that Brady was in his final terms as a mechanical engineering student though. She found new excitement in the conversation, and her emotional walls shrunk as the two related over school struggles. Later, Brady was taken by surprise at Lexey’s strong personality, and he was elated since no one had displayed such strong interest in him. Lexey was also surprised by Brady. She had never been asked on a date over the phone or in person, so when Brady called her to ask for dinner, Lexey, along with her friends that overheard the call, was ecstatic.
The Proposal: Like any other day, Brady and Lexey embarked on a geocaching adventure around the local Birmingham area, not far from Lexey’s home. Unbeknownst to Lexey, Brady had asked his mother and sister to hide a proposal letter in a special cache earlier that same day. The abandoned steel bridge spanning the Little Cahaba River was a quiet and secluded location, perfect for a quaint proposal. Checking behind the tree once looked over revealed a small canister painted green lying on the ground. Together, Brady and Lexey opened the geocache and read the letter. At the end, when Brady got down on one knee, Lexey erupted with emotion. She was completely caught off guard, but joyfully threw out a yes! The two rode home in tears of joy where friends and family were waiting with cheerful hearts.
