How We Met: Martin and I (Katherine) met in tenth grade at a discipleship weekend at my church. We quickly became friends and soon after began dating. We went to rival schools (I went to Hoover High School and Martin went to Spain Park), so we were extremely thankful to cheer for the same team when we both decided to attend The University of Alabama for college.
The Proposal: I was awakened by my older sister, and my roommates were waiting for me on the couch with a computer. There was a video on it from Martin that told me today would be the day we had been waiting on for over six years and to go get my nails done with my friends. Then I came home to another great friend, Natalie Moore, who was set up to do my hair and makeup—and would do it on my wedding day too. We drove up to “Heaven Hill” on Lake Martin where Martin and I had previously gone on walks. The view is absolutely incredible, and I saw Martin in the distance with a table that had some roses and a Bible with my new name engraved on it. When he asked me to marry him, I was so excited to say yes. We then got on his boat that was waiting for us and drove it to his lake house where I was able to see all my friends and family waiting for us outside.
Favorite Moment: At the very end of the reception, all of the guests had gone outside to light their sparklers, and Martin and I had the dance floor to ourselves for the first time as husband and wife. We danced to “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain and were so giddy to finally be married.
