Live on the Plaza: Sean Gaskell

Patrons are invited to attend a live musical performance by Sean Gaskell–who is a classically trained harpist. Sean specifically plays the kora, which is a 21-stringed West African harp. Having studied under Moriba Kuyateh and Malamini Jobarteh, Sean has made numerous visits to Brikama, Gambia for professional training. Sean has performed all over the U.S. and Canada in more than 350 libraries and K-12 schools. To learn more information about his performance, click here.
BAMA Challenge

One of the South’s most competitive cheerleading competitions, the Worldwide Spirit Association’s BAMA Challenge, is returning to The Finley Center this month! Watch as athletes are stunted nearly 20 feet into the air or as they tumble in multiple backhand springs across the floor. This competition will have you on the edge of your seat! The BHMRS Mardi Gras Gala

Back and benefiting the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, the BHMRS Mardi Gras Gala invites attendees to “laissez les bons temps rouler!” The gala will feature a plated dinner, live music, a photo wall, a silent auction, dancing and more! Nature Kids at Aldridge Gardens

Aldridge Gardens
Children ages 4-10 are invited to join Aldridge Gardens for this month’s themed class, It’s a Valentine Wonderland! Attendees will discover hearts in nature and will get to create their own Valentine’s trees. They are advised to bring their own Mason Jars to take home their trees. The Hoover Public Library’s annual Southern Voices Festival is back again and will feature author Julia Quinn of the “Bridgerton” series as the keynote speaker on Friday, Feb. 21. The festival will also feature talks from authors Chris Pavone, Stephen Rowley, Stacy Willingham, Maurice Carlos Ruffin and Kimberly Brock. Musicians The McCrary Sisters will kick off the festival on Feb. 19-20, performing renditions of gospel, soul, Americana and blues. Find more details and purchase tickets here.
